A Talk w/ORESKABAND

During Warped Tour ’08 I got the chance to interview the Japanese all-girl ska band, ORESKABAND. The language barrier was rough at times, but the translator helped us both out. The interview was challenging and a little short, but awesome. I can’t wait for them to come back so we can get a more in depth interview.

First can you tell me who you are?

Leader: I’m Leader. I play trombone.

Moriko: I’m Moriko. I play tenor sax.

Tomi: I’m Tomi. I play the bass and the vocals.

Ikasu: I’m Ikasu. I play guitar and the vocals.

Tae-san: I’m Tae-san and I play drums.

Saki: I’m Saki. Trumpet.

Excellent, and what’s the band name?

Leader: ORESKABAND!

What is your must need item that you take with you on the road to keep you sane?

Translator: What is “sane”?

Sane. Not crazy.

ORESKABAND (through Translator): Febreeze.

Febreeze?

T: To keep clean.

Is this your first time in the United States?

O: Five times.

Wow! What’s the best part about being on the Warped Tour?

O: Visiting a lot of cities and also people who don’t know about us, they can come and see the show.

Who are you favorite bands to tour with and why?

O: There are so many. Can not choose. So many.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve experienced on the road so far?

O: One show we did we were the last band over on the stage, and uh, uh, actually the storm came and it started raining just a little bit, but all of the sudden the heavy rain starts and you know, we had to quit, we couldn’t play there. That happened right before the show.

If you could put together your ultimate tour, what bands would be on it and why?

T: Ultimate tour?

The ultimate tour, like, what bands would you want to play with?

T: Uh, that is the same question.

Almost, but you guys get to pick who you want to play with.

O: Reel Big Fish. They haven’t come to Japan yet, so we hope they come to Japan to play together and many other bands. They wish they can come to Japan too.

And if you had a magic genie that could grant you three wishes, what would they be?

O: Put the shower in the bus. No wait in line for the catering. And oh, laundry.

Do you guys have an album out in the United States?

O: You can buy a record in California and uh, Hot Topic. We’re going to come back for after the new album release the next year and which is going to have a nationwide distribution for the next year.
